World Communion Offering
Al Amana Centre: Building Peace Across Differences
Rooted in a 130-year history of collaboration between Christians and Muslims in the Sultanate of Oman, the Al Amana Centre creates opportunities for people of different faiths and perspectives to come together in genuine conversation. As one of the few Christian-led organizations in the Muslim-majority world dedicated to reconciliation and sustainable peace, the Centre offers safe, immersive interfaith experiences that help participants build understanding, strengthen relationships, and learn to work across religious and political differences.
The Al Amana Centre’s work is a powerful example of the reconciliation and peacemaking supported by the World Communion Offering. Inspired by Micah’s call to “do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God,” the Offering helps support ministries that break down barriers and bring people together across differences. When we give to the World Communion Offering, we stand alongside organizations such as the Al Amana Centre and put our faith into action—working toward a world where understanding replaces division and Christ’s table becomes a model of reconciliation, peace, and welcome for all. The Gullah Farmers Cooperative: Preserving Culture and Building Justice
For generations, the Gullah people on South Carolina’s St. Helena Island have preserved a rich cultural heritage rooted in African traditions, including food, faith, crafts, and farming. But increasing development, environmental threats, and generations of structural racism have put both their land and their way of life at risk. In response, Black farmers came together to form the Gullah Farmers Cooperative Association, creating opportunities to secure fair markets and fair prices for their products while providing their community with fresh, nutritious food. The cooperative also offers farmers valuable assistance with marketing, packaging, food safety, budgeting, certification, and access to USDA programs.
The work of the Gullah Farmers Cooperative demonstrates how justice and community can grow together. Support from the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has helped the cooperative challenge the systems that perpetuate poverty, oppression, and injustice while preserving traditions that are vital to Gullah culture and identity. The World Communion Offering makes this kind of ministry possible by supporting efforts that advance racial justice, peacemaking, and the flourishing of communities. Endowment
The Southminster Presbyterian Church Endowment is an important part of our funding for mission. The Endowment allows us to take advantage of ministry and mission opportunities that are not included in our regular budget. Some of the components of our Endowment are designated—Music, Mission, Christian Education, and Church Facilities. The largest component of the Endowment is the General Endowment which does not have a specific designation, giving flexibility to finance special opportunities in mission that may arise. Thanks to the prudent oversight of our Endowment Committee, the Endowment Fund continues to grow.
The Southminster Legacy Society has been established to honor the act of giving to God and assuring the future of our ministry to people in Christ’s name. It provides an opportunity to commend and graciously thank those who have made a financial commitment in their estate plan for our church. Several members have since joined the Legacy Society and have participated in both educational and social opportunities as a result. Anyone can become a member of the Legacy Society by notifying Southminster that you have included the church in your will or estate plan.
