Lent & Easter at Southminster

“Take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention” – John O’Donohue

Lent starts in mid-February, beginning on Ash Wednesday (Feb. 18). In the church year, Lent is the season when we prepare, often through fasting, giving something up, or taking on an intentional spiritual practice, to celebrate one of the core miracles of our faith: The Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

When Easter comes in April, we’ll celebrate this big and beautiful miracle with all the bells and whistles and flowers we can muster; but during the reflective days of Lent, we remember that miracles don’t have to be big and splashy. Sometimes, they are small and quiet and simple, providing just enough for us to get by.

God invites us to, as the poet John O’Donohue writes, “take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention.” As a shared practice this Lenten season, let’s notice, and celebrate, the quiet miracles God is working in our lives and world.
